STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Delivering structural designs that prioritize safety, resilience and long-term reliability.
Structural Solutions Engineered for Safety and Longevity
Carroll Engineering’s broad structural engineering services and capabilities extend to designing and analyzing existing and proposed structures, including bridges, culverts, buildings, industrial plants, parking facilities, and other infrastructures.
Our bridge design expertise ranges from multiple-span steel or concrete bridges on state and local highways to bridges on private property to single-span pedestrian bridges. CEC’s structural department also performs National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) structural inspections and load ratings of bridges and culverts.
In addition to NBIS inspections, we have extensive experience performing damage assessments and detailing emergency repairs. We are highly skilled in designing single-story and multi-story buildings, as well as underground and above-ground water and wastewater facilities. Our expertise includes all major areas of construction: structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, masonry, and timber. We perform condition assessments and floor live-load ratings of existing buildings. Our roofing expertise includes assessing existing roofs, detailing, and specifying new roofs for Built-Up Roofing (BUR), Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), and shingles.

Featured Structural Engineering Projects
911 Call Center Hangar Building
Upper Nazareth Township, Northampton County, PA
CEC provided structural services for this project that involved the removal of an existing folding hangar door and replacing it with three overhead garage doors. This project also required a design plan to ensure a sturdy new steel framing was used to support the functional need of the new doors.
Broad Run Bridge
East Bradford Township, Chester County, PA
After the Broad Run Bridge along Valley Creek Road in East Bradford Township was impacted by a vehicle, the Township hired CEC to perform a bridge inspection and assessment and make recommendations for its repair. Based upon the age and condition of the existing bridge, the Township ultimately hired CEC to design the new bridge crossing. CEC performed the structural and roadway design, proposing a new, three-sided precast concrete frame. Other tasks included survey, environmental, geotechnical and waterway permitting for the new bridge. After discussions with the Township, a colored, stone form liner on the bridge and brown-powder coated guide rail were included for context-sensitive features for the project. The new bridge will have a design service life of over 100 years. CEC performed the design and construction inspection on the project.
