The existing roadway exhibited aging infrastructure, inadequate stormwater management, and limited pedestrian accommodations, which posed safety and accessibility challenges for both motorists and pedestrians. To address these issues, Carroll Engineering began by performing detailed topographic and boundary surveys to establish accurate existing conditions. Our roadway design incorporated improved traffic safety features, including updated lane configurations and signage, to enhance vehicular flow and reduce conflict points. In addition, a new storm sewer system was designed to mitigate flooding and improve long-term drainage performance. Utility coordination was a critical component of the project, requiring close collaboration with multiple service providers to minimize disruptions and ensure seamless integration of underground facilities. Public engagement was prioritized through a series of project meetings, allowing stakeholders to provide input and remain informed throughout the design process. The reconstruction also included a new lighting layout to improve nighttime visibility, landscaping enhancements to beautify the corridor, and full compliance with ADA accessibility standards to accommodate all users. Carroll Engineering provided Construction Observation services during implementation to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards. The completed project delivers a safer, more efficient, and aesthetically pleasing Main Street corridor for the community.

Butztown Road Realignment

As the municipal engineer, Carroll Engineering is in the process of redesigning the T-intersection of Nazareth Pike (SR 0191) and Butztown Road in Lower Nazareth Township, PA. The existing T-intersection is one-way stop controlled with a stop sign on Butztown Road. In addition, the angle of intersection between the two roadways is quite acute, which can cause sight distance deficiencies for drivers on Butztown Road who wish to turn onto Nazareth Pike. Because of this condition, drivers frequently use the paved triangle in between the two roadways as an auxiliary roadway from which to make turns. CEC’s design will see the intersection realigned into a more traditional perpendicular t-intersection. In addition, a left-turn lane from southbound Nazareth Pike will be constructed for drivers turning onto Butztown Road. As part of the design, an overflow parking lot will be created in the existing paved area between the two roadways. CEC has been coordinating with the Township and PennDOT to accommodate all stakeholder feedback into the design to the maximum extent feasible.

Let’s Build Together

Whether you’re planning infrastructure improvements, seeking permits, or optimizing existing corridors, our team can help you move forward with confidence.
